"Trauma causes us to have an internal experience that is frightening, angry, and shameful. When we feel threatened, as we do when we are traumatized, our entire organism is geared up to find the source of that threat and to do something about it."
Trauma often makes us feel that there is something wrong with us. As children we may have experienced an event or multiple events that have caused us to believe we are unloveable, unworthy, not good enough, powerless, abandoned or rejected (limiting beliefs ) and therefore impacts how we see the world. We often hold the view that the world is an unsafe place and our nervous system is constantly in a fight or flight response mode.
Healing from trauma starts with allowing ourselves a safe space to feel our feelings, learn and integrate coping strategies to regulate our nervous system and re-program the negative narratives or stories we have held on to about ourselves to shift those limiting beliefs. When we are constantly in fight or flight mode, we are easily triggered, feel under attack and our bodies are storing the trauma which can lead to illness.
Therefore bodywork and breathwork is incorporated into releasing the trauma stored in our cells and shifting our nervous system into a parasympthatetic state.
Healing trauma provides us the opportunity to feel more connected and safe in our bodies and that the unhelpful coping strategies we have learned over the years to self-soothe (such as: external validation, drugs or alcohol, avoidance or disconnection) is no longer required as we are able to provide that to ourselves now.
This journey of healing is a your first committment that you make to loving yourself.
